The course

Digital garments fail when the pattern is wrong, not when the render is wrong. This course teaches construction first — panels, seams, fabric logic — then applies it across eleven projects that escalate from a clean T-shirt to a tactical bomber and a corset-and-blouse layered build. Every project is real production work: correct seam placement, believable fabric weight, and simulation that holds up when the character moves.

The roadmap

12 sessions, start to finish.

Every session is a complete piece of work — here is exactly what you build and when.

  1. Session 00

    Theory & foundations

What Marvelous Designer is and where it sits in the 3D pipeline, the key concepts of digital garment creation, garment construction theory — patterns, seams and fabric logic — the interface layout, and how to organise a workspace you can move fast in.

  2. Session 01

    T-Shirt project

Your first garment. Create basic patterns and place them correctly, work between the 2D and 3D views, use the sewing tool to connect pieces, apply fabric presets, simulate natural folds, and export with basic textures.

  3. Session 02

    Jeans project

Block out front, back, yoke and belt loops. Sew the stress points — crotch seams, pocket edges — properly. Master denim physics through thickness and stiffness, add rivets, topstitching and frayed edges, and simulate the natural folds at knee and ankle that make jeans read as worn.

  4. Session 03

    Shirt project

Pattern drafting for front, back, sleeves and collar. Precision sewing, fabric physics tuned for natural wrinkles, and the detailing that sells it: buttoned cuffs, plackets, pocket placement, decorative stitching.

  5. Session 04

    Hoodie — zip up

Build thicker garments with internal structure, place and simulate zippers accurately, shape sleeves and hoods with correct fabric flow, and create wrinkles that carry real weight.

  6. Session 05

    Blazer and pants

Fitted clothing with precise seam control. Structured collars, lapels and cuffs, matching pants for a complete outfit, and stiffer, heavier fabric simulation that holds a silhouette on a posed body.

  7. Session 06

    Cargo pants

Technical fashion: multiple pockets, flaps and utility straps, asymmetrical and segmented components, reinforcement at knees and waistline, and the balance between realism and game-ready flexibility.

  8. Session 07

    Skirt

Soft, lightweight fabric with graceful movement. Symmetrical and radial pleats, drape and fall controlled through gravity and wind simulation, and the technical control that keeps the aesthetic flow intact.

  9. Session 08

    Corset & blouse

Advanced garment design. Shape and tighten around the body with precision, build structural support into curved form-fitting designs, layer multiple pieces with coordinated simulation, and add lace, trims and closure systems.

  10. Session 09

    Leather jacket

Heavier materials with structure and weight, bold silhouettes and sharp seams, collars, cuffs and paneling that behave realistically, and control over stretch, thickness and edge tension.

  11. Session 10

    Tactical bomber

A cinematic, game-ready bomber with layered functional construction. Straps, panels and realistic pockets, heavy fabric behaviour, and silhouette enhanced through detail placement and contrast.

  12. Session 11

    Signature pants

The final project brings everything together: complex pattern shaping, advanced detailing, dynamic simulation and body-fit refinement — plus your own creative decisions, so you finish with a garment that looks like yours.
