About this pack

A flying steampunk ship, taken from concept art to a finished real-time render across nine video parts. It is the largest subject on the studio's tutorial shelf — a whole vehicle rather than a prop — and it is the one to reach for when the difficulty is not modelling a single object but keeping a complicated silhouette readable while dozens of smaller fittings are hung off it.

Nine parts, and what is in them

  • Nine video archives, Part 01 through Part 09
  • Over 11 hours of modelling in 3ds Max
  • Over 6 hours of unwrapping and texturing
  • Fabric parts simulated in Marvelous Designer
  • UDIM tiles laid out in Rizom UV
  • Lighting and camera work in Marmoset Toolbag
  • Built by Mirage3Dart with Milad Kambari

Modelling begins with proxy meshes that follow the concept exactly, so the mass and proportion of the hull are settled before a single greeble goes on. Only after that do the details and small fittings arrive. Sails and other fabric are handled in Marvelous Designer rather than modelled, which is the difference between cloth that hangs and cloth that looks carved.

Six hours go on UVs and texture. A vehicle this size cannot live on one texture set, so the unwrap uses UDIMs: Rizom UV generates the tiles quickly and Substance Painter paints across all of them inside a single project. The closing chapter builds materials in Marmoset Toolbag from the exported maps, then spends real time on lighting and camera framing — which, on a subject shaped like this, is most of the difference between a render and a screenshot.

The tutorial is pitched at intermediate users who can already operate the five applications involved. The finished ship and its project files are not included in the download, and none of the nine parts is narrated or subtitled.

Every purchase includes free lifetime updates and a no-questions-asked 7 day money back guarantee.

About Tutorials

Each tutorial follows one asset from start to finish in real time. Every decision is explained as it is made, so you can see not just what was done but why that approach was chosen over the alternatives.
