Hardsurface Tutorial Collection — VOL 03 - Scifi Helmet
Hardsurface Tutorial Collection VOL 03 takes a sci-fi helmet from 2D concept to finished hard-surface mesh in 270 unnarrated minutes of 3ds Max.
A vertical drill taken through the complete pipeline in Blender — modelled, unwrapped and textured, then presented in Marmoset Toolbag. This is the Blender counterpart to the studio's 3ds Max prop tutorials, and it covers the same ground with the same intent: one asset, start to finish, nothing skipped in the middle.
Modelling takes better than three hours in Blender and is deliberately unhurried, so the mesh can be followed without guessing at what happened between cuts. Unwrapping moves out to Rizom UV, the strongest tool in that particular corner, and the drill is laid out as multiple UV tiles by the UDIM method rather than crammed onto one square. Texturing runs in Substance Painter: mesh maps are baked first, the model is sorted into two folders, and materials are then built up folder by folder — a small organisational habit that keeps a prop's texturing readable as it grows. Marmoset Toolbag handles the final presentation.
Its practical value sits in the handoffs. Blender artists routinely learn to model well and then stall at UVs, and this shows the export out to Rizom UV, the tile layout, the return into Substance Painter and the bake that ties them together, on a prop small enough to finish in a weekend. Follow it with your own file in progress rather than watching it through, and the workflow transfers to the next asset you build.
Intermediate. Basic knowledge of each package is assumed: enough to navigate it and use its primary functions. The finished drill is not included, nor are the working files.
Every purchase includes free lifetime updates and a no-questions-asked 7 day money back guarantee.
Each tutorial follows one asset from start to finish in real time. Every decision is explained as it is made, so you can see not just what was done but why that approach was chosen over the alternatives.
