Hardsurface Tutorial Collection — VOL 03 - Scifi Helmet
Hardsurface Tutorial Collection VOL 03 takes a sci-fi helmet from 2D concept to finished hard-surface mesh in 270 unnarrated minutes of 3ds Max.
Two hours and twenty minutes in ZBrush, spent on one head: volume three of the Sculpture Series builds a Yoda head from scratch, taking the face through its structure and then working the hair on top of it.
Hair is what separates this volume from the rest of the series. It is the part of a stylised character sculpt that most often looks pasted on, because it gets treated as decoration rather than as a form with weight and direction, and 140 minutes leaves room to see it built properly against a face that is already finished.
The series is built so the volumes can be taken in any order, and this one sits comfortably after the witch in volume one: the same broad approach, a stylised head rather than a realistic one, and a hair pass the earlier volume does not cover. The tutorial works from a reference set rather than freehand, so keep your own reference beside the video and match to it as you go.
Beginner to intermediate level, with basic ZBrush knowledge assumed — viewport navigation and the primary functions. What ships is the recording, not the finished sculpt and not its project file.
Each tutorial follows one asset from start to finish in real time. Every decision is explained as it is made, so you can see not just what was done but why that approach was chosen over the alternatives.
